Ahmad Faraz was a Pakistani Urdu poet known for his romantic ghazals and political poetry. He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by Pakistan and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz. His romantic ghazals are among the most sung compositions in South Asian music.
❝Even if it's spite, come just to hurt my heart, come again, come only to leave me apart, keep some illusion of my love's pride at least, come, just once, to console me from the start❞
❝When you left, the heart broke into pieces — but I gathered myself and rose once more. In love I never learned how to give up — I have learned to live without you too at the core.❞
❝Come even in anger, if only to hurt my heart — come again, if only to leave me once more. If not the old intimacy — still, come sometime — there is still custom and courtesy left to observe.❞
❝Come, if only to hurt this heart once more, Come, if only to leave me again as before. At least maintain the illusion of my love's pride — If you won't come, at least feign reason and guide.❞
❝To repay the debt of your love is impossible, what you have given me is beyond all price. In every breath of mine lives your name, this love is more precious than paradise.❞
❝Whether you meet me or not — that is your choice, but I will keep remembering you always. I live in the company of your memories — as long as I live I will keep calling your name.❞
❝Even if in anger — come and then leave me, at least have that much regard for my heart. Your separation will always be remembered — but the heart also wants — just one meeting more.❞
❝Now that we part, perhaps we'll meet in dreams some night, Just as dried flowers are found in books pressed tight. Seek the pearls of loyalty among the broken and forlorn, These treasures you shall find in the desolate and torn.❞
❝I tried to forget you but could not — I could not shake free of your memory. Every night you come in my dreams — morning the eyes open and there is pain.❞
❝When pain crosses its limit, it becomes its own medicine. The person who breaks apart and scatters — that very one reassembles and becomes beautiful.❞
❝What is wrong with weeping in your memory? The heart wants to keep weeping and you to keep coming. Without you, living through these nights is hard — Whether you come or not — may this heart keep beating.❞
❝Listen — what is your legend in this world? What does the creation of God say about you in your absence? With you in my gaze, everything is light — Without you, life is merely an excuse.❞
❝Listen — no one has seen you better than I have ever done, I have seen you deeper than any mirror under the sun. The colours in your eyes are all meant for me, The pain in your smile is all meant for me.❞
❝Those who meet with downcast eyes averted low, I do not recognize them as I go. I make friends with those who look me in the eye, And speak to me directly, face to face, not shy.❞
❝The heartless finally understood what life really contains, The heart never found the beloved it craved in its veins. This life is a journey, O Faraz my friend, Whoever we met on the road asked us to pause till the end.❞
❝She departed from me, yes she did depart, But from her memory I never could part. There is a wound in my heart that will not heal, I speak her name until the pain I no longer feel.❞
❝I want to drown in the depths of your eyes, I want to lose myself in your embrace's ties. Indifferent to everything the world contains, I only want to stay near you, that remains.❞
❝Don't look at me like that or I'll scatter apart, I'm already broken — I can't break once more in heart. I cannot bear the gaze of your eyes, O Faraz, How much longer can I protect this wounded heart?❞
❝You dwell in my heart to such a degree, Like oxygen within the breath I breathe so free. How can I live without you here beside, You are the peace in which my life can hide.❞
❝Surely I must come to your memory sometimes, surely I must touch your heart. But whether you remember me or not — I don't have the courage to find out.❞
