Jaun Elia was an Urdu poet, philosopher, biographer and scholar from Amroha, India, who later settled in Karachi, Pakistan. Known for his eccentric lifestyle and nihilistic worldview, his poetry is marked by existential angst, loss, and a dark romanticism.
❝The pain is so deep that tears no longer come, the wounds so old that even pain has gone numb. I have learned to live in silence, what use is making noise when no one listens.❞
❝I wish to return to those lanes of childhood, where every sorrow had a cure with mother near. Today the sorrows are the same but mother is gone, that is why every path feels nameless and unclear.❞
❝Someone knocked at the door of my heart, I opened it — and memories stood there. Those memories I had tried to forget, those memories that simply refused to disappear.❞
❝This too is madness — remember it well, Not you — and no one else comes to mind. That I should remember someone else — My memory holds no such intention.❞
❝You left and I remained behind — became a character in this unfinished story. Your departure was my destruction — but your memory became my whole world and glory.❞
❝I am certain you are happy being apart from me — without me your life will be easier. Perhaps I was a burden for you — now you are free, this will be a favour.❞
❝I too am strange — I befriend my own pain, I wish to keep meeting the one who breaks me. I sit alone at night, waking my memories — This is my passion: to keep making myself weep.❞
❝You have left — that is the truth — but your memories are still here. Your fragrance still lingers in this room — you are not here, but it feels like you are.❞
❝I am very tired and the road is very long — stay with me just a moment or two. This fatigue, this sadness, this loneliness — share it with me, hand in hand.❞
❝I have been lonely for so very long, You too have been lonely for just as long. Still we two never seem to meet and belong — What kind of distance is this, what kind of world gone wrong?❞
❝I have come to know the world is vast and wide, But for me it is a small and narrow tide. They worry about me and what I might do, While I have no worry about them it's true.❞
❝Breaking a heart is also an art — but mending one is a miracle. Those who give pain are common in this world — those who remove pain are without equal.❞
❝You are not here but your fragrance is — in every breath is your warmth. I am parted from you but not alone — the company of your memory is always with me.❞
❝How lethal is the fragrance of your memory's trace, Every time it arrives, it disturbs and leaves no grace. It lets me neither come close nor go away free — Your memory lives only in this in-between for me.❞
❝I am strange and you are strange as well, I am not faithless and you are unlucky. I kept searching for you but you never came, you were very close — yet distance was our destiny.❞
❝I had no idea I would be this lonely indeed, A stranger among people, isolated in my need. Everywhere around me smiling faces appear, But inside every heart is a desert bare and drear.❞
❝All philosophies are false, all doctrines are false — Only one truth remains: that we are alive. Do not try to understand life — just live it — that is the greatest truth.❞
❝I thought I would forget you — but memories take root in the heart. Every word of yours, every moment — I remember, these memories make their home inside me.❞
❝She speaks in such a beautiful way, Making my heartbeat quicken and sway. With every smile that graces her face, My heart builds a new world in its place.❞
❝I have been extinguished, but I will remain bright, I am the star of some dark and forgotten night. The world cannot understand the pain that I bear — I am a man who belongs to some other time and air.❞
❝Is this my madness or the effect of love I bear, In everything around me I see your image there. In every voice I hear your voice calling out to me, In every face I look upon your face I see.❞
❝I want to cry but tears refuse to fall, I want to laugh but laughter will not come. I am living in a kind of hollow silence, where even life itself has gone numb.❞
❝When you arrived it felt as if life itself had come, When you left I understood what had become undone. There was no bond, there was no promise made, Yet the pain of breaking cut so deep, it never stayed.❞
❝Missing you has become a habit now, At night and through the day, I don't know how. Without you even breathing feels like less, Life without you feels like emptiness.❞
❝Your leaving was expected, your going known, But losing myself was not what I'd shown. Since the day that you walked away from me, I've grown distant from myself, you see.❞
